British racer Devon Modell will make the switch to Porsche GT3 machinery with Anglo-Hong Kong outfit Craft-Bamboo Racing for the remainder of the fledgling Blancpain GT Series Asia from the second round of the championship in Buriram, Thailand on the 20-21 May 2017.
Modell will initially line up alongside Hong Kong driver and 2015 GTA Asia champion Darryl O’Young in the #99 VLT sponsored 911 R GT3 in a silver/silver pairing, but will then switch to the sister #88 car from round three in Suzuka Japan on 24-25 June with a teammate soon to be confirmed.
26-year-old Modell, winner of the 24H Series SP3 championship in 2015, has wide experience in GT racing having been part of the Aston Martin Academy in 2015 and 2016, competing successfully in both GT3 and GT4 machinery.
Having recently been impressed at the level of competition and having made his first visit to the race tracks of Asia, competing in the final round of the Asian Le Mans Series in LMP3 machinery in Sepang Malaysia, Modell chose to seek new opportunities in the SRO organised Blancpain Asia Series and the opportunity to join a front-running outfit was too good to overlook.
“I watched the first round of Blancpain Asia on the TV and was really impressed with the 30-car field and level of competition,” said Modell, “I had some options in the Blancpain Series in Europe – both Sprint Cup and Endurance Cup – but when I weighed it up, I think the Asian Championship is going to go from strength to strength and visits some great tracks; so, I decided to take up a new challenge.”
Five Rounds remain of the 2017 Blancpain GT Series Asia with visits to Thailand, then two visits to both Japan and China.
