Devon Modell made his debut in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Middle East series this weekend (3-4 March, 2017) with FFF Racing by ACM and quickly established himself in helping the team secure a podium position in the second race in Dubai.
“It’s been a nice experience for me… getting to know the car, team and teammate Jack Bartholomew,” Modell said. “The car was at first difficult to understand as its quite different from the GT3 machinery I’m used to, so it took me some laps to adapt.
“However, by race two I think I was well up to speed and pushed hard with Jack for the podium. Now I’m looking forward to the next challenge…”
Modell got acclimatised to the Lamborghini Huracan in the first practice session of the Dubai meeting, adapting to the for softer characteristics and also his own seating position. In qualifying he was only able to complete two timed laps before being forced to pit and this left him 12th on the grid. His practice times showed that he should have qualified inside the top five.
The first race saw Modell take the first stint, courtesy of qualifying the car, quickly moving forward passing rivals into turn three as he used his Dubai Autodrome experience to best effect. Modell caught the sister FFF Racing car being driven by Carrie Schreiner, opting to hold station before pitting to hand over to Bartholomew who went on to finish in fifth position.
The second race saw Bartholomew start from sixth position. Both he and Modell were able to make progress, eventually taking the chequered flag in a fine third position, just four seconds behind the sister FFF Racing Lamborghini on what was a very successful debut for Modell with the team.
