Maidstone’s Modell unites with Wrotham’s Motorbase team for Blancpain Endurance attack

Maidstone’s Devon Modell returns to the Blancpain Endurance Series in 2016, this time as teammate to Jonny Adam and Ahmad Al Harthy in an Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 prepared by his local Motorbase Performance team.

Modell – the 2015 HANKOOK 24H Series SP3 Drivers’ Champion – completed a full Blancpain Endurance Series campaign last year, most notably securing a podium result in the Pro-Am class during the blue riband Total 24 Hours of Spa.

The Kent-domiciled 25-year old has already embarked on a pre-season testing programme with Motorbase and, while a recent outing at Autodromo do Algarve in Portugal was heavily disrupted by torrential rain, hail and high winds, Modell and his teammates clocked up some meaningful mileage and topped the times during two days of official testing at Circuit Paul Ricard in France (9-10 March).

“The two days at Circuit Paul Ricard served as an opportunity to play with the car’s setup and find a configuration that suits me and my teammates,” said Modell. “It was also about figuring out where we stand in relation to the opposition, which includes new cars from Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, BMW and Lamborghini. I’m delighted to be back in Aston Martin machinery because the V12 Vantage GT3 is a very competitive package and Motorbase knows how to run the car well.

“It’s also nice to be with my local team. Not only have I been made to feel very welcome, but it’s a supremely professional operation at the same time. It’s fantastic to have a teammate of Jonny Adam’s calibre. He’s very quick and we couldn’t ask for a better pro driver, so I’m expecting to learn quite a lot from him. What’s nice is that he also started out in the UK Clio Cup and successfully moved into GT racing, becoming an Aston Martin Racing factory driver. I hope to follow in his footsteps.”
