Britain’s ‘Home of Motor Racing’, Silverstone, will host Round 2 of the Blancpain Endurance Series this weekend (23-24 May) and Devon Modell will be hoping to challenge for podium finishes behind the wheel of his Ecurie Ecosse BMW Z4 GT3, run by Barwell Motorsport

Following a trying season-opener at Monza last month, Modell and teammates Alasdair McCraig and Olly Bryant concluded the three-hour contest 12th in the Pro-Am class despite Italy’s ‘Temple of Speed’ configuration not quite suiting the BMW.

Between meetings, Kent’s Modell contested the annual Britcar 24 Hour endurance race with Speedworks Motorsport at Silverstone, where he helped take the team’s Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT4 to a podium finish in mixed weather conditions that ranged from bright sunshine to monsoon rain to further cement his racing credentials.

Together with other legendary circuits as Monza or Spa-Francorchamps, Silverstone is the only venue that has been present in all editions of the Blancpain Endurance Series since its creation in 2011.

Previous races on the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit have shown that the track gives the stellar field of high calibre GT drivers ample opportunities to showcase their talents, and, with over 15 drivers wearing the Union Jack colours this weekend, Modell is expecting to challenge for podiums in his 515bhp Ecurie Ecosse BMW Z4 GT3.

“I am very much enjoying my time with Ecurie Ecosse in the Blancpain Endurance Series; the team is very professional and we have a brilliant car,” said Modell. “We tested at Silverstone a few weeks ago and learnt a lot about how the car performs on the circuit. Monza wasn’t the best of weekends for us, as we didn’t have the top speed to compete with the Ferraris, but Silverstone is more suited to the BMW.

“The circuit has a few long straights, but with its sweeping bends and quick chicanes, it certainly plays into the hands of the BMW and we should be quick. The aim for this weekend is to certainly be fighting at the sharp end of the field and hopefully come away with a top ten finish overall and a podium finish in class.”

Qualifying for Round 3 of the Blancpain Endurance Series at Silverstone is scheduled to get underway at 09.00 (GMT) on Sunday (24 May), with the three hour headlining endurance race later that day at 14.45 (GMT).
